At the foot of Mont Blanc, Chamonix has become world-famous as a ski resort, attracting all types of snowsport lovers during the winter months. With its steep slopes and amazing terrain to explore off-piste, it is easy to forget the dangers that the mountains hold. Valid for anyone heading out onto the mountain, we encourage you to get on to an avalanche course to stay safe in the mountains. If not for your sake, then for the sake of the people you are heading out with, because your quick reactions can be what saves their lives in the unfortunate even that you, or they, get caught in an avalanche.
We run courses for all different levels, whether it is your first course and your first-time using equipment, or if you are a hardened mountaineer, looking for your annual revision session.
So why jump onto an avalanche rescue course with us ?
Our main aim is to keep you safe in the mountains. Chamonix Vertical believe this means teaching you the techniques to search for and rescue someone who has been caught in an avalanche, but equally, teaching you how to prepare for your outing so that you can minimise the risk of getting caught in an avalanche. This means understanding the avalanche risk, correctly planning your route, and assessing the risks before, as well as during your adventure. It means learning when to say no, when to turn back, and assessing evolving conditions.
We will teach you and practice using the different equipment that you should have on you, notably a transceiver, shovel, and probe, to find multiple buried victims. Finally, we will run through some first aid techniques to round off keeping you safe in the mountains.
Our courses run on demand so please get in touch if you are looking for either a group course or a private course. The location will be adapted to your requirements, weather and snow conditions, as these will vary throughout the year. The course is available both on foot or on skis, however in addition to the weather, location and snow conditions, this will also depend on your ability and previous experience. The length of the course can also be adapted to you.
